Bodies and surfaces – it is hardly surprising that a fashion designer, of all people, should be concerned with such themes: being and appearance as the definition of human existence. The agnès b. collection enjoys a reputation as one of the most famous French private collections, dedicated not just to the human being as object but also to the social, cultural and aesthetic conditions of life in all its facets.
The exhibition bridges a span from the 19th to the 21st century, linking human studies from the time when photography was first developed as a medium with contemporary auteur photography. The agnès b. collection avoids any kind of hierarchical arrangement, offering unusual juxtapositions of established photographers and young artists. The photographer's direct and honest view of human beings and the intimate in the everyday thus gives rise to a spontaneous panorama of human life.
C/O Berlin is presenting the agnès b. collection for the first time outside France.
